I’m Judith, a UK-based Spanish & French – English Translator, Journalist, Copywriter and online English tutor.
Writing, languages and communication have always been important to me – so combining my journalistic and language skills seemed a natural career decision. After 17 years of working purely in journalism, I decided to re-explore my languages and did a Masters in Translation, working from Spanish and French into English.
Now, I am able to combine my Translation and Journalism skills and each one feeds into the other. To be a good translator, you also need to be a good writer – as well as a bit of a pedant – making sure no errors slip through the net and producing sparkling copy that sounds as natural in English as it did in its original (source) language.
As a freelance Translator, I specialise in translating, proofreading and reviewing marketing and tourism texts, including copy for hotel and retail websites, social media, press releases and all forms of internal (and external) communications. I also enjoy translating reports and case studies for NGOs.
I am part of a freelance team that translates scripts of human interest stories from French into English for broadcast on the multilingual magazine programme Europe Weekly, which is streamed every weekend on the digital TV channel, ARTE. I love doing this because it combines my journalistic and translation skills all in one.
As a Journalist/Copywriter, I write content for business blogs and company communications including press releases, website copy, award submissions, job adverts and employee and stakeholder communications. I have a diploma in Copywriting from the College of Media and Publishing.
I am an Associate Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), the only UK-based professional membership association for practising translators, interpreters and language service providers. This means I adhere to their standards and Code of Professional Conduct, as well as have access to valuable CPD opportunities and the ability to network with other professional translators. Within the ITI, I belong to several vibrant communities, including the French Network, Spanish Network, and the Food & Drink, Marketing and Media, Arts & Tourism Networks.
I’m also a member of Mediterranean Editors & Translators (MET), an association for language professionals and editors who have English as their primary working language.
